Despite their World Series loss, the New York Yankees had a great 2024 season. They had a strong run, but there was still room for improvement. Things went out of hand after their disastrous Game 5 against the Dodgers, and it’s time they made some significant changes to their roster.
Several free agents are in the market, but the Bronx Bombers have been linked with only a few. Apart from Juan Soto, they are connected to Walker Buehler and a few other players. Now that Cody Bellinger might be on the trade block, they have a great chance to shake things up.
3 Reasons For The Yankees To Sign Cody Bellinger And Walker Buehler
Bellinger Will Be A Good Replacement For Anthony Rizzo
The Yankees declined their 2025 club option for Anthon Rizzo. After Rizzo’s struggles, the Yanks might not be interested in having Rizzo back on the team. While they do have Ben Rice as an option, opting for Cody Bellinger is a veteran and an experienced slugger. Bellinger will be a great fit in the Bronx and boost the team.
The Yankees Need More Sluggers If They Fail To Sign Juan Soto
The Yanks will prioritize Juan Soto and are among several other teams competing to sign the star slugger. However, with the Mets closing in, they are yet to confirm. While they have a strong chance of retaining Soto, having a backup plan is always good. Bellinger is not a replacement for Soto, but signing him would strengthen the team’s lineup if they miss out on Soto.
Walker Buehler Can Pitch In For Marcus Stroman
Marcus Stroman had a great start in 2024 but wasn’t consistent in his performance. The Yanks moved Stroman to the bullpen, but he did not get the chance to pitch much towards the end of the season.
Buehler’s season was not too great either, but he finished on a good note with the Dodgers. Now that the Dodgers have not extended a qualifying offer for Buehler, the Yanks could use Buehler to sharpen their pitching rotation.
