It has become common news by now that Shohei Ohtani’s wife Mamiko Tanaka is a baller and even played pro basketball back in Japan. Interestingly, the couple was caught playing the latter’s sport in a viral video shared on social media.

In a video circulated on X (formerly Twitter) after Shohei Ohtani and the Dodgers won the World Series, the pair is seeing taking shots at the hoop. The exact date of the video is unknown.

Shohei clearly showed his amateur skills he couldn’t convert a long range basket. Meanwhie, Mamiko showed exactly why she is a pro with one of her shots comfortably going in.

During the World Series, videos had also emerged of Tanaka’s time in the Japanese women’s basketball pro leagues. Chucking 3-pointers seemed like bread and butter for her.

Ohtani and Tanaka announced their marriage in February when the Dodgers superstar posted the news on his Instagram. The two have made sporadic appearances, but Mamiko has been in public more recently especially during Los Angeles’ postseason run.

Shohei Ohtani’s rehab plan a ‘step by step process’ per GM Brandon Gomes

As per General Manager Brandon Gomes during the annual GM meeting, the team will look to remain patient while monitoring Shohei Ohtani’s progress towards full fitness. He stated that because his two-way nature can come in the middle of his rehab as a pitcher, especially after his injury to the left shoulder.

“We’ll see how he gets through this phase and then take it each step by step because it’s complicated with somebody who’s also hitting,” Gomes said. “So we’re just going to make sure that we’re checking every box to make sure he’s in the best possible position health-wise, and whatever falls out of that smart, methodical process will be what it is.”

Shohei Ohtani had a labrum tear in his left shoulder while trying to steal a base in Game 2 of the World Series. He was visibly in a lot of pain after sliding in towards second base. However, he played with the injury and has undergone surgery to fix the torn labrum, the team announced on Tuesday. It is unclear whether the 30-year-old can enter the Dodgers starting rotation from Opening Day of the 2025 MLB season.
