Iowa Star Reveals Major Challenge After Caitlin Clark, Kate Martin Departures: we need to grow up a little bit..

The 2023-24 Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team will always be remembered as one of the most iconic teams in NCAA history. With the departure of collegiate stars Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin from the Hawkeyes squad, lowa has turned the page into the next chapter.

Forward Jada Gyamfi spoke about the departure of both players and the impact they’ve had on her. She revealed that she’s adjusting to Clark and Martin being away from the team, but explains she needs to “grow up a little bit.”

“I’m definitely adjusting to what it’s like because those are my go-to people, so I don’t know. It’s different, but I think it’s good for me because I need to grow up a little bit,” Gyamfi said, per Owen Siebring. “I can’t just rely on their support all the time. They’re still very much in my life; [there’s] definitely an adjustment, though.”

The 6-foot-1 forward will be heading into her junior season with the Hawkeyes, having averaged 1.4 points and 0.6 rebounds per game last season. She may not be able to rely on her veterans on and off the court, but she believes it may be beneficial to her.

Gyamfi should see a rise in her average minutes played, coming into the year as an upperclassman. She has yet to start a game at the collegiate level, but an upgraded role may be on the horizon with first-year head coach Jan Jensen.

While Gyamfi settles into a new life, Clark and Martin are working through the growing pains of the WNBA. They’ve seen some struggles in terms of efficiency and opportunity, but both have flourished with their new teams.

Clark has averaged 16.1 points and 7.6 assists per game for the Indiana Fever, leading all rookies in both categories. Meanwhile, Martin has worn the silver and black of the Las Vegas Aces, posting 3.5 points and 2.1 rebounds per game for the defending champions.
