Bobby Witt Jr. in action against the Houston Astros
MLB insider Ken Rosenthal on Monday praised Kansas City Royals star Bobby Witt Jr. for powering their chances of going deep in the playoffs. After shrewd signings preceding the trade deadline and in the offseason, the Royals seem to be gathering momentum at the perfect time in the season.
Witt is having an exceptional season, leading the majors with a .336 batting average. The 24-year-old phenom also has 30 home runs and 98 RBIs and would be the undisputed favorite for the AL MVP award had Aaron Judge not been dominant again, with 51 home runs, 125 RBIs and a .321 average.
On “Fair Territory,” Rosenthal said the Royals have defied their doubters, driven by one of baseball’s best players (Timestamp: 14:10):
“Here was a team, that even after their offseason moves, FanGraphs laughed at, and yet, they’ve had a pretty good vibe about them all year. They’ve also got the best player (Bobby Witt Jr.), arguably, in the sport, the best young player.
“I’m not insulting Aaron Judge here, I’m not insulting (Shohei) Ohtani, but Bobby Witt Jr. is one of the top five players in the game. It all starts from him. This team has gone for it, and they’re being rewarded.”
Bobby Witt Jr., Royals sweep Twins at home
The Kansas City Royals beat the Minnesota Twins 2-0 at Kauffman Stadium on Sunday, successfully sweeping the visitors. In a game dominated by pitching and defense, the Royals’ two runs in the fifth provided the only scoring. Royals starting pitcher Michael Wacha recorded a quality start, pitching seven innings while striking out seven.

The Royals (79-65) have won their last four games and remain in a strong position to qualify for the playoffs via the AL wild card. They head to the Bronx to take on the New York Yankees (82-61) in what promises to be another thrilling series, starting Monday. Brady Singer takes to the mound for Kansas City in Monday’s game.
