“How did it hit the ball that far?” – Trevor Bauer puzzled after broken-bat line drive in Mexican League start

Trevor Bauer has been active on social media as he looks to not only repair his reputation but also add value to clubs in the MLB. The veteran pitcher has been plying his trade in the Mexican League as he looks to secure another opportunity in The Show.
The former Los Angeles Dodgers star often posts videos of him recording strikeouts with the Diablos Rojos del México this year.
Given his performances this season, including a 19-strikeout game, Bauer should have plenty of material to share with his nearly 600,000 followers on X. While he normally posts strikeout videos, Bauer’s most recent post showcased a rather rare moment on the field.
In the video, Bauer can be seen discussing his plan of attack and how he will get his opponent. Unlike his other posts, the former Cincinnati Reds ace struggled throughout the at-bat.
“F*** me, get the hand out,” Bauer said in frustration after a missed throw. “That was a lazy pitch.”
As the at-bat progressed, Bauer found himself in a full count before giving up something rarely seen on the field. Bauer threw a high fastball on a 3-2 count, breaking his opponent’s bat.
Unlike a normally broken-bat groundout, the ball flew to the fence, forcing Trevor Bauer to question what he saw.
“Broken Bat?! How did it hit the ball that far, that bat shattered,” he asked himself, clearly frustrated after being unable to record the out.
Trevor Bauer could join a load-pitching free-agent pool at the end of the year
Despite putting up solid numbers all season in the Mexican League, it remains to be when or if Bauer will ever return to the MLB. This past offseason, Bauer continued to seek a new opportunity in the majors, going as far as to offer his services on a minimum contract.
“I’ll play for the league minimum, I just want to play, that way if you sign me and don’t like the reaction or something’s not going right you can cut me,” Bauer said to Theo Von in February on a potential MLB comeback.
Even though Bauer was cleared of any criminal wrongdoing from sexual assault allegations made against him, offered to play for an extremely team-friendly contract, and has proven that he still has life in his arm, he is still without an MLB deal.
He will likely try again to secure another MLB deal this upcoming offseason, however he will do so in a potentially loaded starting pitcher market. Stars such as Corbin Burnes, Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer and Max Fried are all pending unrestricted free agents who could draw eyes off the resurgent Bauer.
