Griner, who was detained in Russia for nearly ten months, expressed her disappointment and frustration with Kid Rock’s remarks, calling them “disrespectful to America” and “unworthy to represent the country.”
In a statement released through her legal team, Griner stated, “It’s truly disheartening that a fellow American would publicly attack me for my decision to prioritize my safety and well-being while under the extreme circumstances of being wrongfully detained in a foreign country.
Kid Rock’s comments are not only disrespectful to me but also to the millions of Americans who face unimaginable challenges every day. His words do not reflect the values of unity and compassion that our country should embody.”
Griner further emphasized that her decision to plead guilty was a strategic move to secure her release and return home to her loved ones. She explained that given the nature of the Russian legal system and the potential consequences of a drawn-out trial, she believed that pleading guilty was the best course of action.
