The Yu Menglong Case: Mother Missing, 100 Residents Flee After Threats from 15 Suspects?

Although it has been nearly three weeks since his death, the case of actor Yu Menglong is far from closed. Instead, new revelations have only deepened fears and fueled outrage among fans and the public seeking the truth behind his mysterious passing.

On August 28, China Times reported fresh developments in Yu Menglong’s case, despite police officially concluding that the actor had died from an accidental fall while intoxicated. What shocked both media and the public was that almost all online information about Yu Menglong was being systematically erased from China’s internet. Not only reports about his death, but even his Super Topic group on Weibo — a fan hub for news about him — suddenly vanished. This strange erasure left netizens questioning why everything about Yu Menglong was being wiped clean if nothing suspicious had occurred.

Adding to the alarm, an entertainment blogger claimed that Yu’s mother disappeared after traveling to Beijing to arrange his funeral and file a complaint challenging the official investigation. Many fear she may have been silenced by powerful forces. At the same time, celebrities who initially demanded justice for Yu quickly deleted their posts. Actress Sun Lin even revealed she was injured after a flowerpot was deliberately thrown at her from above, suspecting it was an intimidation tactic for speaking out.

Meanwhile, QQ News reported that nearly 100 households in the apartment building where Yu died were suddenly putting their homes up for sale. When approached by the press, residents refused to speak or share surveillance footage. Online observers speculated they had been bribed or threatened into silence, forced to abandon the building out of fear of entanglement.

Blogger leaks suggested Yu’s case was being covered up by high-ranking figures, possibly within the top levels of the Chinese Communist Party. Allegedly, 15 suspects — including children of senior officials, directors, producers, and influencers — had lured Yu into a drinking party where he was tortured and ultimately killed. The list reportedly includes Cai Yijia (son of CCP Secretary Cai Qi), CEO Zhou Hao, screenwriter Li Ming, director Hu Haiyang, producer Du Qiang, and others. Supporting perpetrators allegedly included actress Song Yiren, influencer siblings Yuan Ziwen and Yuan Zihao, and several well-connected insiders.

Disturbingly, Yu’s final text to his mother surfaced online, where he described being trapped in a dark apartment, manipulated by a powerful figure, and fearing for his life:
“Mom, every time I see the money they send me, I feel sick. It’s dirty money, not what I earned. I have to say goodbye now in this message. They could break in and kill me at any moment. I’m not joking, I’m not hallucinating. I just wanted to be a true artist.”

Netizens now refuse to believe Yu simply fell to his death. Many demand CCTV footage, autopsy results, and witness testimony. Yu’s body reportedly bore signs of torture, and rumors suggest his stomach was cut open to retrieve a USB containing sensitive information on elite crimes. His body was cremated almost immediately, raising suspicions of evidence destruction.

A Global Petition for Justice

On September 20, Sanli News reported that an international petition was launched via the NGO AVAAZ, titled “Justice for Yu Menglong.” Written in both Chinese and English, the petition stated:
“We demand truth and accountability. We are devastated and outraged by the ‘suspicious’ death of artist Yu Menglong (Alan Yu) in September 2025. As more materials surface — including an alleged audio recording of Yu screaming in anguish while being abused — we have reason to believe this was not a natural death, but a brutal, premeditated murder.”

The petition further alleged Yu was “deprived of his freedom, beaten, forced to consume alcohol and drugs, and ultimately killed.” It concluded:
“If this is true, then it is not only a tragedy for one artist, but also a severe violation of human rights and public safety. Justice does not come by itself — we must fight for it together. We cannot allow this case to be buried.”
