Barbie Forteza on her healing journey: ‘Mas naniniwala na ako sa sarili ko ngayon’

Kapuso actress Barbie Forteza shared how she has discovered more about herself this year as she started on a “clean slate.” In the latest YouTube vlog of award-winning actress Eugene Domingo, the P77 star admitted getting her groove back–– both physically and mentally.

It was earlier this year when Barbie surprised her fans as she revealed her breakup with longtime boyfriend, Jak Roberto. She admitted how it felt scary as she was “back to zero” but she realized how it could be a sign by the universe for her to explore other things.

“Well ‘yung simula nung taon na ito, literal na clean slate kumbaga. Akala ko it will be scary na shocks, back to zero ako, saan ako magsisimula kasi talagang blank canvas. Siguro it was also the universe telling me na ‘try mo naman to’. Hindi na rin siya super blank canvas kasi kahit papaano, at the back of my head, meron na akong mga activities na gusto ko na i-try. May ideas na,” she shared.

The Kapuso star turned to other activities such as running, tennis, and pilates to focus on her healing journey. She also travelled to South Korea where she spent Valentine’s day alone. She expressed how thankful she is for the various sports she got into as she became physically stronger as well.

“Dahil sa running at pilates, nararamdaman ko ‘yung mga bagay na hindi ko mabuhat dati, ’yung mga simpleng malalaking maleta –– kaya kong bitbitin. ‘Yung maleta ko sa Korea, wala akong kasama, nabibitbit ko siya mag-isa. ‘Yung strength, nandoon,” she said.

She then shared how the stars have aligned for her healing journey. During the first quarter of this year, she just had a few projects, giving her more time to experience life outside of work. It was because of this that she found confidence in herself once more.

“Mas naniniwala na ako sa sarili ko ngayon. Doon ako nagsimula: na ‘yung thinking na ganoon, wala ako na hindi kaya. May mga bagay lang talaga ako na ayoko gawin. Lahat ng mga feeling ko gusto kong gawin na hindi ko kaya, inaral kong kayanin,” she explained.

While others may think that she cut her hair due to events that transpired in her real life, Barbie maintained that it was really because of the projects that she was part of. It worked in favor, as she shared how confident she now feels with her short hair and even wants to cut it shorter.

“Ngayon tapos na lahat ng proyekto ko na kailangan short hair, parang I’m very comfortable with it. I really enjoy wearing short hair; gusto ko pa siyang ipa-short pa. Tumaas din ‘yung self confidence ko kasi hindi ako masyado nagrerely sa buhok, kasi nga maikli,” she expressed.

Meanwhile, Barbie is set to star in the upcoming Netflix film, Kontrabida Academy, alongside Eugene, Jameson Blake, and Xyriel Manabat, among others. The film is written and directed by Chris Martinez and will be available on Netflix starting this month.
