However, it didn’t take long before suspicion crept in. Alice Guo’s connections to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) began raising red flags. The town of Bamban suddenly saw a boom in suspicious business activities — many tied to foreign nationals and allegedly operating without proper permits.
Government agencies investigating POGO-related crimes such as money laundering, illegal recruitment, and online scams soon zeroed in on Bamban. Anonymous tips and intelligence reports claimed that Mayor Guo may have used her position to protect and facilitate illegal operations in her jurisdiction.
But the worst was yet to come.
Is Alice Guo Even Filipino?
Perhaps the most shocking twist came when the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and Senate investigations unearthed documents suggesting that Alice Guo was not a Filipino citizen at all.
According to forensic fingerprint analysis and document verification, “Alice Guo” was actually “Guo Ping,” a Chinese national. Her supposed birth certificate was only registered when she was already 17 years old — a red flag for falsification. No trace of her mother could be found, and other details in her documents didn’t add up.
The implication? She may have used fraudulent papers to run for office — effectively infiltrating the local government.
Cracks Widen: The Compound Raid and Pig Butchering Scam
In early 2024, law enforcement raided a large compound in Bamban allegedly linked to Guo. What they uncovered was a massive financial scam operation — specifically, a “pig butchering” scam. This complex scheme tricks victims into investing in fake businesses and apps, then slowly bleeds them dry of their money.
The compound was allegedly being run by foreign nationals and protected by local officials loyal to Guo. Digital evidence, testimonies, and intercepted communications tied the operation directly to the mayor’s office.

Fugitive on the Run
Facing a growing number of charges, including grave misconduct, money laundering, qualified human trafficking, and falsification of documents, Guo allegedly attempted to flee the country in July 2024.

Captured in Indonesia: A Fall from Grace
On September 3, 2024, Alice Guo was arrested in Tangerang, Indonesia, in a coordinated operation between Philippine and international authorities. Within days, she was deported back to the Philippines and brought to Pasig City Jail, where she remains under tight custody.
Along with Guo, several of her co-conspirators were also captured and face charges in the Philippines.
Court Rulings and the Collapse of Her Career
On June 27, 2025, the Manila Regional Trial Court (Branch 34) formally nullified Alice Guo’s position as mayor, declaring her term “null and void ab initio.” Simply put — she was never legally mayor to begin with. Her fake citizenship invalidated her election and any executive decisions she made while in office.
This landmark decision not only ended her political career but also sent a strong message about the importance of identity verification and citizenship vetting for public servants.
An acting mayor was swiftly appointed to stabilize governance in Bamban as investigations continue into Guo’s other alleged accomplices.
