19 bids were enough for the ball thrown by the Japanese player against the Miami Marlins at LoanDepot Park on the afternoon in which the Dodgers player entered MLB history as the first player to achieve the famous 50/50 with home runs and stolen bases.
But this story still has a long way to go, as Goldin Auctions will have the auction open until Wednesday, October 23, so it is expected that the figure could still reach unimaginable figures.
Outside of auctions, the most expensive ball in MLB history is the record of $3 million, which was paid in a direct sale for the famous 70 home runs hit by Mark McGwire in 1998.
In that 1998 ‘Big Mac’, as the famous player was called, hit 70 home runs in a season with the St. Louis Cardinals and the high value of that ball was because it surpassed the mark held by Roger Maris since 1961, when he had hit 61 home runs.
