One Dodgers fan lost his job for skipping work to take in the World Series Parade celebrations

On November 1, hundreds of thousands of rabid Dodgers fans descended on downtown LA. Although the vast majority were there to celebrate in good faith, the actions of a few vandals and hooligans cast an unsavory shadow on the festivities.

Among those affected by the events was Reddit user OtherBeginning7294. In a post on Reddit, the fan claimed that his workplace saw him on video partying at the parade, after asking for a sick day.

The festivities took place two days after LA defeated the New York Yankees to win the World Series. The reaction to the fan ostensibly getting fired invoked quite a reaction online, with the majority finding the situation to be wildly amusing.

Some of the scenes that came out of downtown Los Angeles last Friday and into Saturday were frightening. One fan fell from a third-story balcony, while a group in Echo Park set a public bus aflame. Some rather gruesome videos also emerged of a fan sustaining a major hand injury while setting off a firework on the street.

“Actions have consequences” – reminded another fan

Some estimates place the number of fans who came out in downtown Los Angeles at around 1 million individuals. The crowd was able to watch their favorite players – such as Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts and World Series MVP Freddie Freeman – parade through town on a bus.

“He should have just waited for next year’s parade” – snarked an observer

“What amazes me is that he had a job” – laughed another

“He had Dodgers fever! C’mon!” – was a final comment

For the Los Angeles Dodgers, it was the club’s first World Series win since their 2020 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. However, as the last victory took place in the grips of the COVID-19 pandemic, fans were sure to make up for some of the partying lost four years ago.

Misconduct runs rampant at Dodgers World Series parade

While most fans were there for a good time, some misconduct mired all those in attendance. As Freddie Freeman told the New Heights podcast:

“One of our wives got hit, got stitches, I had my kids with me, and I was trying to walk them, but it’s dangerous. But she took it like a champ, she got stitches and moved on.”

Although the fan in question was likely doing nothing wrong, it looks like his dishonesty and guilt by association did him in.
