Sometimes, people make comments that are so out of touch with reality that it’s kind of funny. But sometimes, those types of remarks are just flat-out annoying.

Such is the nature of what former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick told Sky Sports News in an interview published on Monday.
If you recall, Kaepernick used to be a pretty solid quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers back in the early 2010s, even getting his team to the Super Bowl in the 2012-13 season. But his success was short-lived, and his on-the-field production regressed shortly thereafter.
To make himself relevant again, Kaepernick famously began kneeling for the U.S. National Anthem during the 2016 season, and has since become one of the most prominent social justice warriors in the sports/entertainment industry. He eventually would play his last game in the 2016-17 season.
But here we are, nearly eight years later, and Kaepernick is holding onto the delusional theory that he could make an NFL comeback – and win a title.
“We’re still training, still pushing,” Kaepernick said. “So hopefully. We’ve just got to get one of these team owners to open up. It’s something I’ve trained my whole life for, so to be able to step back on the field, I think that would be a major moment, a major accomplishment for me. I think I could bring a lot to a team and help them win a championship.”
I’m all for being confident in your abilities, but this is just as absurd as it gets.
Kaepernick can’t take off nearly eight years of playing football and expect that he can play at a championship level. Furthermore, he shouldn’t expect the NFL would want him after the stunt he pulled in 2019, when he refused to participate in an NFL tryout at the last minute.
“Kaep” lost his chance to play in the NFL nearly a decade ago, and there’s no chance he makes a comeback. But if there’s a “Dumbest Athlete of the Year” Award handed out at ESPYs, Kaepernick should run away with that trophy.
