Jennifer Lopez has left her fans ‘confused’ after she shared a new Instagram video talking about her relationship with alcohol – saying she enjoyed the ‘occasional cocktail’ but didn’t get ‘s***-faced.’
The 53-year-old singer took to Instagram on Monday and posted a lengthy clip defending herself against critics who blasted her choice to launch her alcohol brand, Delola, despite previously admitting she didn’t drink.
JLo looked her usual glamorous self in a sleeveless camel-colored jumpsuit, that featured an oversized collar and a zip-up front.
The mother-of-two accessorized with a pair of oversized sunglasses and hoop earrings as well as a gold personalized necklace while addressing her 248 million followers.

Selfie time: The mother-of-two recorded herself in a car as she headed to a liquor store to purchase alcohol
‘So I’m on my way to sneak out to go and get some Delola,’ Jennifer began in the video.
‘We have a few people coming over for the holiday weekend and I realized that we don’t have any. I thought we would but we don’t. So I’m gonna go to the store and get some, hopefully they have it there,’ she laughed.
Sitting in the front passenger seat of the moving vehicle, Jennifer continued: ‘I’m really excited, I love holiday weekends, I love spending time with family and friends and having a little cocktail.
‘I know that a lot of people have been talking about like, “Oh she doesn’t even drink, what’s she doing with a cocktail?” And to tell you the truth, that was true for a long time, I didn’t drink.
‘A few years back, as you will see from several photos of me out over the past 10, maybe 15 years, I have been having the occasional cocktail.
‘I do enjoy the occasional cocktail. I do drink responsibly, I don’t drink to get s***-faced. I drink to be social and to have a nice time and just kind of relax and to let loose a little bit, but always responsibly,’ she revealed.
‘I have to tell you, I tried a lot of different things, cocktails, I was into White Russians at one point, I was into rosé, but I never found anything that I really loved, and so like anything else in my life, I created it myself.’
The On The Floor hitmaker then filmed herself going into a local liquor store and she was delighted when she found some bottles of Delola.

The owners of the store, as well as other customers, were thrilled when they realized who she was and quickly asked to take photos, and even started playing her music.
However, some of Jennifer’s Instagram followers were less impressed with the video due to the fact that her husband, Ben Affleck, is sober.
Taking to the comments section, one person claimed: ‘So awkward when she talks about drinking responsibly and not getting s***-faced knowing her husband [suffered] from alcoholism for years.’
Another person wrote: ‘I’m just confused about her talking about alcohol and cocktails when her husband is an alcoholic… who is allegedly in recovery? Makes no sense at all and I find it very difficult to understand.’
A third person commented: ‘So sad bc her husband doesn’t drink why is she making a point of telling us this?? Who cares… next she’ll be selling her cocktail so weird and he doesn’t need this either.’
Ben’s past: Some of Jennifer’s followers were ‘confused’ by her latest venture because her husband, Ben Affleck, has struggled with alcoholism in the past
Helping hand: Ben has been in rehab a few times over the years and has been open about his alcoholism
Feeling thirsty: Jennifer began working with her partners to develop the drinks back in 2020 and launched the company in April
A fourth follower said: ‘Hmmm so confused with this video… and how does this help Ben??’ and a fifth asked: ‘Why not respect your husband’s sobriety?’
Others quickly jumped to Jennifer’s defense as one person fired back: ‘Why would she have to pay for her husband past or present? Is his decision. She supports him and make sure he is on check. But again, it is NOT her responsibility (sic).
‘If she will drink occasionally or whenever she wants, she wants to have her things of like. It’s about balance,’ they added.
‘Her husband’s Alcoholism has nothing to do with her. His sobriety doesn’t depend on her or anybody else,’ someone else fumed.
Ben, 50, has been in rehab a few times over the years and has been open about his struggles with alcoholism.
He received residential treatment for addiction in 2001 and maintained his sobriety for a ‘couple of years’ afterward.
Fun times: Jennifer told her fans that she drinks to ‘let loose’ but ‘always responsibly’
Perfect pair: Ben and Jennifer married in July 2022 after rekindling their romance in 2021
In subsequent years, he refused to discuss his alcoholism in detail and later described it as a period where he ‘drank relatively normally.’
The Good Will Hunting actor returned to residential treatment in 2017 and, following a publicly documented relapse and intervention, again in 2018.
Ben received further outpatient treatment over the following year, but in late 2019 he was filmed him stumbling on a Los Angeles street.
He acknowledged the following day that he had a brief ‘slip’ after more than a year of sobriety and later described the incident as ’embarrassing.’
Meanwhile, Jennifer previously told InStyle that she believes alcohol ‘ruins your skin.’
Speaking to UsWeekly in 2016, Jennifer cited her alcohol-free lifestyle as one of the ultimate secrets to looking so young: ‘I don’t drink or smoke or have caffeine. That really wrecks your skin as you get older.’
