LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – SEPTEMBER 10: Brittney Griner #42 of the Phoenix Mercury walks on the court during a break in the first quarter of a game against the Las Vegas Aces at T-Mobile Arena on September 10, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Aces defeated the Mercury 100-85.

Brittney Griner, a WNBA veteran, is set to represent the United States at the Summer Olympics in Paris, alongside 11 other elite players from the league.

Notably, Caitlin Clark is not among them.

Amidst the debate over whether Caitlin Clark should have made the roster, Brittney Griner offered a thoughtful perspective. She emphasized that the United States women’s basketball selection committee faces an exceptionally difficult task in choosing the team.

“I don’t want to be on that committee,” Griner said this week. “It’s a tough job. There are so many decisions to make each year about who makes the team and who doesn’t. It’s a hard process. Anyone on this team has the potential to win, but we’ll see how things unfold in the future.”

While the decision sparked frustration among many sports fans, Clark responded with remarkable grace.

“I’m thrilled for the girls who made the team,” she said. “I’ll be cheering them on for gold. I grew up watching the Olympics, so it’ll be exciting to see it from a different perspective.”

She added, “Honestly, there’s no disappointment. It just gives me something to strive for.
