Licata also noted that if the Yankees kept Soto, the team would need to make “minimal moves” to stay under budget, which he feels would likely limit any significant improvements. Of course, trading Giancarlo Stanton would require his approval due to his no-trade clause. Yet Licata believes this is a worthwhile pursuit. Stanton’s value could be relatively high coming off a strong postseason, and the move would free up the designated hitter spot, a flexible position that could benefit star outfielders like Aaron Judge or, potentially, Juan Soto. In Licata’s view, parting with Stanton could signify a first step toward a balanced lineup.
