Analyst Georges Laraque has set his sights on Canadiens defenseman Arber Xhekaj, sparking debate ahead of Montreal’s upcoming game. Amid ongoing questions about Xhekaj’s future with the team, fans are hoping these discussions don’t distract from the team’s efforts to overcome their early struggles this season.

Laraque believes Montreal should either play Xhekaj against a tough Washington Capitals lineup or consider moving him altogether.
“If Xhekaj isn’t playing against Washington, he’s useless! Trade him! Xhekaj is going to be traded, forget it.. Look at the team the Canadiens are up against! McIlrath, Duhaime, and Tom Wilson.

If Xhekaj, even though we agree he could improve defensively; you’re not using him in a game where you’ve got three guys who’ll be physical, on the road, and make a difference.. Who will you use him against? Against the Ice Capades? This is the type of game where you need Xhekaj in the lineup, exactly!” – Georges Laraque

Known for his experience as an enforcer Laraque understands the importance of having a physical presence especially in matchups against gritty teams like Washington. However Xhekaj has seen limited ice time this season due to his defensive weaknesses. Though he’s a fan favorite in Montreal for his fighting skills, his contributions are often outweighed by his lack of impact in other areas. Many fans may be disappointed if Xhekaj is traded but might also appreciate a defenseman with a more consistent on-ice presence.

Laraque’s take is clear: he doesn’t see a place for Xhekaj if he’s not in games like this one. But Montreal has a decision to make, you either use Xhekaj against Washington or focus on a lineup that could deliver a win. Either way, it’s a topic likely to stir debate among fans in the coming weeks.
