Eminem’s The Death of Slim Shady is his 11th No. 1 album

The Death of Slim Shady’s debut at the top of the charts marks Eminem’s 11th No. 1 album, which saw the iconic rapper join the ranks of musicians like Kanye West, Barbra Streisand, and Bruce Springsteen.

The album also received the second largest digital launch of 2024 with 114,000 sales, topped by Swift’s newest album with 274,000 sales. The Death of Slim Shady’s physical release is scheduled for September 13, 2024.

According to Hip Hop DX, Eminem also earned the biggest first week-sale of any rap album in 2024, a title previously held by Metro Boomin and Future’s collaborative album We Don’t Trust You, which came out on March 22, 2024.

The Death of Slim Shady saw Marshall Mathers return to the rap scene after four years following the success of his 2020 album Music to be Murdered. The album was highly anticipated as it promised an exploration and subsequent demise of the rapper’s alter ego, Slim Shady. Calling it a “conceptual album,” Mathers urged fans to listen to the 19-song tracklist in sequence to grasp the whole meaning.

Houdini, the first lead single from the album, also debuted on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 2. The song was accompanied by a music video with major throwbacks to the classic Slim Shady song Without Me from his 2002 album The Eminem Show. The song even sampled the iconic starting line, “Guess who’s back, back again?/ Shady’s back, tell a friend.”

The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) is now available to stream on all music platformsAccording to Billboard, the album’s CD version will be available from September 13, while the vinyl version will be sold from October 25, 2024.
