Shesterkin pulled less than one week after record breaking contract.

Igor Shesterkin gives up 5 goals in 25 minutes less than one week after signing his record breaking contract.

Less than one week after signing the richest contract for a goaltender in National Hockey League history, Rangers star goaltender Igor Shesterkin has been yanked from a game against the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday by Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette.

Shesterkin would allow 5 goals in total in just over 25 minutes of play on Saturday, including a 3 goal outburst from the Kings that spanned just 2 minutes and 18 seconds. It felt like Laviolette had little choice but to swap in veteran goaltender Jonathan Quick, but I suspect that many will be pointing fingers at the Rangers defense more so than they will at Shesterkin himself.

Here’s a look at the first goal of the game:

Warren Foegele would pick up the second goal of the game with the Rangers defense giving up way too much space in front of Shesterkin on the rebound.

Shesterkin looked completely frozen on this shot from Quinton Byfield, resulting in a 3-0 lead for the Kings.

Kings made the Rangers defense look silly once again for their fourth goal of the game.

Phillip Danault would pick up the fifth and final goal of Shesterkin’s day today, another goal off an entirely uncontested rebound.

As I said I believe most of the blame here will be directed at the Rangers defense, but it will be interesting to see how fans respond to Shesterkin being pulled so quickly off the heels of his massive new contract.
