Even though he didn’t want to, Ed Sheeran, the new shareholder of Ipswich Town, still had to leave Portman Road at halftime in the home team’s opening match against Liverpool on August 17.
“I had to leave at half-time because I had a show in Serbia right after,” the British singer-songwriter shared about the reason he couldn’t watch the entire opening match of Ipswich Town.
The concert and the match took place so close together that Ed Sheeran had difficulty arranging the schedule. However, Ed Sheeran still tried to go to the stadium to cheer for “The Tractor Boys”. The 33-year-old singer arrived at Portman Road early to sign autographs and interact with Ipswich Town fans.
At the same time, the British singer did not forget to show his pride for his home team. “It’s great to see the home team have the opportunity to compete in top matches like this. To compete in this prestigious tournament, Ipswich Town had to go through many difficult years and now the team has made the whole town proud,” Sheeran said.
Sheeran is one of the loyal fans of “The Tractor Boys” and is the shirt sponsor for both the men’s and women’s teams of the club since 2021. On August 16, this talented singer-songwriter officially became one of the shareholders of Ipswich Town with a 1.4% stake. However, Ed Sheeran is not on the list of shareholders with the right to decide on the team’s structure and strategy.
Despite playing hard, Ipswich Town still couldn’t create a surprise against coach Arne Slot’s team when they lost 0-2. On August 24, “The Tractor Boys” will have a difficult away trip when they meet Man City at Etihad Stadium.
