Former NHL defenseman Mike Commodore has voiced his support for Corey Perry’s potential induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Commodore highlighted Perry’s impressive track record, noting his exceptional feat of reaching the Stanley Cup Finals five times with five different teams.
Taking to X/Twitter, Commodore endorsed Perry’s case for Hockey Hall of Fame induction by posting:
“HHOF credentials for Corey Perry, just getting to the cup finals once is impressive..5 times is amazing let alone 5 different teams…and he’s literally won everything to boot.”
In a recent episode of “Bodog’s Clearing the Crease Podcast,” Commodore shared his thoughts on Corey Perry’s career, expressing admiration for Perry’s skills and accomplishments.
Commodore described the 34-year-old veteran as a “hell of a player,” acknowledging his talent and the element of luck that has contributed to his success.
“I don’t know if he’s a wizard. I would say it’s a combination of Corey Perry is a very good I mean, I know he’s definitely on the last hole or two of his career here, but he’s definitely a hell of a player, and I think he’s a little lucky too, for sure,” he said.
“Maybe made some good trips, but before you can think you’re going to a cup contender and end up going there as a free agent and you don’t end up making it there, that can easily happen, it happens every year,” Commodore continued.
Despite acknowledging that Perry is approaching the later stages of his career, Commodore hailed Perry’s prowess on the ice, labeling him as a standout player, especially in the playoffs.
“But yeah, I don’t know if he’s a wizard. So I’d say it’s a combination of he’s, uh, he’s been a hell of a player. You know, I know he’s been scratched a little bit this year. But I mean, like I said, he’s slowing down a little bit, but he’s always been very good in the playoffs. And a little luck,” he added.
Edmonton Oilers re-signed Corey Perry
Perry joined the Edmonton Oilers as a free agent in January, inking a one-year deal with the club. He was a key member of the Oilers squad that made it to the 2024 Stanley Cup, eventually losing to the Florida Panthers in a high-voltage Game 7 of the final.
Notably, this was Perry’s fourth Cup defeat with four different teams, which some describe as a “curse.” Although Perry has made five trips to the finals, he has managed to win only one Stanley Cup in his career with the Anaheim Ducks in 2007, which was also his first team in the NHL.
On the first day of this year’s free agency, the Edmonton Oilers re-signed him on a $1.4 million contract for one year.
