Regardless of what happens in Game 6 or Game 7 if necessary, Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid already locked up the playoff MVP award, says Ken Campbell.

Think about this for a minute: Brandon Saad had in 82 regular-season games the same number of points that Connor McDavid has in 23 playoff games, and Saad makes $4.5 million.

What McDavid is doing for the Edmonton Oilers in this playoff in general, and this Stanley Cup final in specific, is mind-boggling. And he’s leading anyone on either the Oilers or the Florida Panthers who had designs on the Conn Smythe Trophy in his dust, regardless of how this thing plays out over the next one or two games.

Aleksander Barkov? You mean the guy who has half as many playoff points as McDavid and has gone missing? Sergei Bobrovsky? You mean the guy McDavid is currently shredding as he drags the Oilers back into this thing?

It’s what you call a no-brainer at this point. McDavid is destined to add another trophy to his collection. Whether it collects dust in his attic or whether he prominently displays it will depend on whether or not he and the Oilers can finish the job in Games 6 and 7.
