Former Montreal Canadiens forward files for bankruptcy
Steve Bégin was a fiery player on the ice, known for the intensity he brought to the fourth line. He started his NHL tenure after getting drafted by the Calgary Flames in 1996 40th overall. During his six seasons with the team, he recorded 26 points and 214 penalty minutes in 159 games.
However, many hockey fans might know him more from his five seasons with the Montreal Canadiens. He played 266 games in five seasons with the team, earning 66 points and 275 penalty minutes. After his time with the Dallas Stars, Boston Bruins, and Nashville Predators, he finished a 524-game career and retired in 2014 upon the advice of his doctor.
Unfortunately, this former Canadiens forward is facing significant financial issues in his retired life. In public posts made across several social media platforms, Steve Bégin shared that he was a heavy investor in an engineering company that went under in 2013, forcing him to also file for bankruptcy.
“The civil engineering company in which I had been proposed to invest large sums of money since 2013, has gone bankrupt, which has had a negative impact on my financial situation and consequently also caused a bankruptcy. I could have tried to avoid the subject, but opted to talk openly about it, as I believe there are lessons to be learned.
I find this experience very trying, disappointing and above all hurtful for me and those close to me, but as always, I’ll keep pushing forward to achieve great projects despite this ordeal.”
Financial struggles are always challenging, and managing the weight of loss on investment only compounds the frustration. Hopefully, Steve Bégin can turn his situation around while managing these challenging times.
