The New York Knicks made waves ahead of the NBA Draft with bold moves that caught the attention of basketball fans everywhere. Their acquisition of Mikal Bridges and the re-signing of OG Anunoby signaled their intent to bolster their roster significantly. As expectations rise for a promising season in New York, opinions vary on their potential to contend for a championship.
Golden State Warriors’ star Draymond Green recently shared his perspective on the Knicks’ prospects during an episode of his podcast, “The Draymond Green Show.” Green acknowledged the Knicks’ defensive prowess under coach Tom Thibodeau but expressed skepticism about their ability to reach the pinnacle of the NBA.
“I think that team is going to be tough because they’re going to defend. We know [Tom Thibodeau] teams are going to defend. They’ve got offensive weapons. But I don’t ultimately think that team gets over the hump,” Green said.
In addition to their roster moves, the Knicks also put forward a shrewd business mentality during the NBA Draft. After acquiring Dillon Jones, they swiftly traded him to the Oklahoma City Thunder. In exchange, they have received a package of five second-round picks spanning from 2025 to 2027.
Draymond Green Doubts the Knicks’ Ability to Challenge the Celtics
The Boston Celtics recently clinched the NBA championship, securing their place in history. However, with talk swirling about the New York Knicks potentially contending next season, Draymond Green had a distinct opinion.
The Warriors star didn’t mince words when discussing the Knicks’ chances against the Celtics.
“It’s no indictment on any of [the Knicks players], I just don’t think that group is good enough to beat Boston. Ultimately, you’re building a team that you hope can beat Boston,” Green said.
