Gabriel Landeskog has been out since the Avalanche hoisted the Stanley Cup in 2022, and now his potential return has been set back once more.
Ever since the Colorado Avalanche won their third Stanley Cup in franchise history back in 2022, the team have been without their captain Gabriel Landeskog, as he has undergone three major surgeries over that time. This off-season, the 31-year old forward made it clear that he was on the way back no matter how long it took, with the majority of people believing that he he will return to the ice with the Avalanche at some point during the 2024/25.
We haven’t heard much of an update since that point, but now, there has been some very bad news, as a well placed source within the organization has revealed that he has suffered a setback that may ultimately prevent him from a return.
While the report reveals nothing but stating that the setback was ‘significant’, and at this point, it feels as though things could be swinging towards Landeskog’s retirement in the very near future. However, at just 31-years of age, he’s still very young, and if he can get back to a point where he believes he can play at a high level, there’s no doubting that he’ll attempt to do everything he can to return.
On Wednesday, Head Coach Jared Bednar revealed that the setback didn’t come out of nowhere, and that he believes a return could still be coming.
“I don’t think it’s anything unexpected.”
Ultimately, if Landeskog can get healthy, he may still have plenty of gas left in the tank, and given the injuries this season, it’s safe to say the team need him back on the ice, so keep a very close eye as more developments will come.
