Pete Alonso has been stellar for the New York Mets, but his time in the Big Apple could soon be up. The four-time All-Star first baseman is set to become a free agent once the season comes to a close.

He would be one of the top free-agent offerings, and plenty of teams could surely use his bat in their lineup. When considering who may take a stab at the former NL Rookie of the Year, the New York Post’s Jon Heyman considers the Chicago Cubs a likely team.

However, he is not the only team that he mentioned. He also mentioned the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners as other teams that could be interested in Alonso’s talent.

Houston already tried to acquire Alonso ahead of the trade deadline, but it never went through. Heyman mentions his connection to Kyle Tucker and their high-school playing days as a potential swaying point in free agency.

The Mets could still keep Pete Alonso around following the 2024 season, but it will cost them. Many insiders project him to seek a contract upwards of $200 million. According to the New York Post’s Joel Sherman, NY offered him a seven-year, $158 million extension last summer, but Alonso turned it down.

Alonso has gone on record to confess his love for paying in the Big Apple, but it does not look like he will give them a discount. This could be a stressful offseason for the Mets faithful.

While he has struggled at times offensively this year, he will have many teams after him once he becomes a free agent. He has immense power at the plate and is a player that could turn a team into an instant World Series contender.
