J.K. Rowling has had her share of supporters as she boldly challenged Scottish authorities to arrest her over their new hate crime law, which could see people arrested for using a transgender person’s wrong pronouns.
But did anyone think Caitlyn Jenner would be one of them?
The former reality star had previously slammed the Harry Potter author after Rowling questioned the use of the term “people who menstruate” over “women.”
But things between the two slowly thawed and in 2022, Jenner told the Daily Mail that Rowling “shouldn’t be cancelled” because “she’s got an opinion.”
Jenner defended her the following year after Rowling was “cancelled” for siding with comedian Dave Chappelle for a comment he made about “TERFS” (a trans exclusionary radical feminist) on his Netflix special.
Now, Jenner, who transitioned to a woman in 2015, is backing the writer once again, saying the idea that Rowling or anyone who misuses pronouns could face legal trouble is ridiculous.
“JK Rowling facing arrest for ‘misgendering’ … absurd!” Jenner wrote on X.
“This has gone way too far!,” she continued. “You can ‘respect’ people’s pronouns or not. We cannot force or coerce this type of speech with the threats of jail time.”
Rowling dared Scottish police to arrest her earlier this week after she took to X to call out several transgender women as men but authorities said no legal action would be taken against her.
That allowed the author to welcome the decision — but doubling down on her beliefs and backing anyone else who shared her opinion.
“I hope every woman in Scotland who wishes to speak up for the reality and importance of biological sex will be reassured by this announcement and I trust that all women — irrespective of profile or financial means — will be treated equally under the law,” she wrote on X.

She warned police in a follow-up post that she was ready to intervene if they pursued lower-profile women for making similar comments.
“If they go after any woman for simply calling a man a man, I’ll repeat that woman’s words and they can charge us both at once.”
