They allowed the Hurricanes to score twice in the third period, and Carolina ultimately won 3-2 in overtime with a goal from Sebastian Aho.
Connor McDavid, who scored both goals for the Oilers, reflected on the team’s offensive challenges in response to a question about the lack of production from key players.
He emphasized the need to keep pushing forward, noting that players are getting good chances. McDavid reckons that eventually, the offense will break through, as it’s just a matter of time. He said:
“I don’t see any other option than to keep plugging away. Guys are getting chances, guys are getting looks they want. Eventually, it’s gonna go. It’s just the law of averages. Give their goalie credit, I thought he made some huge saves coming down the stretch. It could’ve gone the other way.”
The loss to the Canes marked the fifth defeat for the Edmonton Oilers (2-4-1), who are seventh in the Pacific Division with five points.
Connor McDavid sees positive signs following back-to-back defeats
The Oilers faced another disappointing defeat against the Hurricanes, mirroring their 4-1 loss to the Dallas Stars on Saturday.
Connor McDavid and his teammates had several opportunities throughout the game that could have shifted the momentum in their favor. However, despite their efforts and chances, they were unable to capitalize on these moments, resulting in another frustrating result.
But the Oilers captain remains positive about the team’s play amid their lack of results.
“I think we see good signs,” said Connor McDavid via Edmonton Journal. “We had an opportunity to win tonight and we didn’t. I thought we gave ourselves a chance to win in Dallas and we didn’t. “We’re playing the way that we know we can play, we just haven’t seen it enough.”
McDavid has racked up eight points through three goals and five assists so far this season. He and the Oilers will be up against the Pittsburgh Penguins next Friday. The puck drops at 9 p.m. ET.
