Eminem Earns His Biggest Pop Hit In More Than A Decade — “The Death of Slim Shady” Remains Biggest Hip Hop Debut of 2024

Marshall’s latest album is, by large, the biggest hip hop hit of the year so far. Nobody has come even close to its numbers in the month since its release.

Some interesting albums have been dropped over the past 30 days. Common & Pete Rock, Denzel Curry, Rakim and more released projects that didn’t break into the mainstream charts. There was a ridiculously highly rated by many hip hop media Ice Spice’s album. There were releases from Killer Mike, Polo G, and JPEGMafia.

But really, the only one that could challenge Eminem’s dominance was Kanye’s new instalment to his “VULTURES” series. However, it failed even to reach the success of the first part, which is ranked third on the list of hip hop first-week sales this year.

Will anybody be able to wrestle this trophy out of Shady’s hands?

Here the biggest hip hop US album debuts of 2024 so far, according to the ChartData account:

1. Eminem “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)” — 281,000

Eminem has maintained his superstar status in the hip-hop genre for decades, and he’s only further cemented his popularity and power with his latest album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce). The title’s lead single is still climbing on a number of Billboard charts, and this week, it brings the musician to a position he hasn’t seen in a long time on one tally.

“Houdini” jumps from No. 15 to No. 14 on Billboard’s Pop Airplay chart this frame. That’s a new peak for the single on the list of the most successful tracks at pop radio in the U.S.

Eminem hasn’t claimed a top 15 hit on the Pop Airplay ranking for more than a decade. In 2013, he ruled the tally with “The Monster,” one of his several collaborations with Rihanna.

“The Monster” holds as Eminem’s last major smash on the pop radio roster. The hip-hop cut reached the summit on the Pop Airplay list in December 2013, and it went on to rule for five frames. Since then, he’s landed a number of additional hits, but none that have climbed into the top 15.

In the coming weeks, “Houdini” could break into the top 10, based on its trajectory. The single has been climbing steadily for more than two months, so another gain wouldn’t be unexpected.

That said, Eminem seems to have moved on from the track. Since he first introduced the world to “Houdini,” the rapper has selected two newer singles from The Death of Slim Shady. “Tobey” with Big Sean and BabyTron didn’t reach the radio ranking, but his more recent drop could soon become a favorite.

“Somebody Save Me” has all the makings of another pop radio win for Eminem, as well as Jelly Roll, who sings the chorus. The track serves as the third official single from The Death of Slim Shady, and it might become another win at pop radio for the two artists.
