Chris Brown – one of the most popular (and controversial) R&B musicians of the last two decades – has sold millions of albums and singles worldwide since his debut in 2005.
As of early 2024, Chris Brown’s net worth had long been estimated to be in the vicinity of $50 million.
Through a diversified combination of music sales, chart-topping singles, lucrative touring, acting engagements, endorsements, and business ventures, all of which began with his multi-platinum debut album at age sixteen.
Brown has been in the news recently, after the singer claimed he’d been disinvited from the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game, owing to his controversial history.
On February 17th, Brown was quoted as saying via Instagram:
“I was asked by the NBA to play in the all star game this year! Only for them to call later and say they couldn’t do IT because of their sponsors like RUFFLES. At this point I’m sick of people bothering me[.]”
As for why Brown’s presence might ruffle some feathers, Yahoo! Entertainment mentioned his history with Rihanna, and noted:
“Brown has been accused of domestic violence several times throughout the course of his career. The Grammy winner was accused of hitting a woman during an argument at a Los Angeles residence in 2021.
“But he also has a longer history of detailed legal battles throughout the past two decades, including his infamous 2009 assault of singer and then-girlfriend Rihanna on Grammys night.”
Notorious music executive Suge Knight weighed in on Brown’s claims, asserting that Brown had “lost opportunities,” while other artists like Dr. Dre hadn’t been shunned so thoroughly.
In spite of Brown’s checkered past, he has remained active in the industry. On February 19th, Brown announced the pending release of a “Deluxe edition” of his album 11:11, and he’s slated to tour in the summer.
Today, we’ll look at the streams of income behind Chris Brown’s $50 million net worth, and all the ways he still makes money today.
Updated, April 2024: On April 28th and 29th, a “conspiracy theory” about Chris Brown and fellow artist Quavo began circulating, after Quavo performed to a markedly small crowd in Connecticut.
TMZ was one of the first outlets to cover the rumors, explaining: “Video from Quavo’s concert in Bridgeport, Connecticut is floating around social media … seemingly showing a damn-near empty venue looking more like a gig for a small-time artist than a former member of Migos.
“… the tiny crowd has people online theorizing Chris Brown may have pulled one over on Q. Folks online are pushing the conspiracy theory Brown bought a ton of the tickets for the show so Quavo would perform to a pretty much empty concert hall — basically as a way to embarrass his nemesis.”
The following day, HipHopDX.com picked the story up, noting that neither Brown nor Quavo had commented, and reporting:
“Despite having no evidence, many fans have speculated that Brown snapped up tickets to the concert so that Quavo would perform in a near empty arena.
“One social media user commented: ‘Chris Brown [is] evil for this, apparently he bought all the tickets at the Quavo concert just so the crowd is empty.'”
While neither artist appeared to address the rumors, another artist – 50 Cent, who has been fairly vocal of late – shared the rumor on Instagram. 50 Cent didn’t directly support or refute the rumor, but he was clearly amused by it.
