Former Stanley Cup Champion a scratch? The NHL just made a joke about Corey Perry:

The NHL Stanley Cup Finals begin on June 8th, 2024 at 8 PM on ESPN+ and the Edmonton Oilers will face the Florida Panthers.

This will be the 5th time for Corey Perry, unlike his teammates in the Oilers, who will be their first Stanley Cup final.

However, for Perry’s 5th trip, the media has begun to take the piss out of Perry as while this is a milestone for everyone else, this is a cautionary tale for Perry.

Other than his 1st Stanley Cup with the Anaheim Ducks, every team he’s been a part of since has lost their bid for the Cup, including the Montreal Canadiens, Dallas Stars, Tampa Bay Lightning, and now the Edmonton Oilers.

Corey Perry of the
@EdmontonOilers
is set to become the first player in NHL history to play at least one game in the #StanleyCup Final with five different franchises.

Perry was a regular scratch during the last round of the Stanley Cup playoffs and hasn’t been able to make a big impact in the lineup.

As a 3rd or 4th liner, you need “character” guys like Perry to provide a reason to be on the ice, and his wormlike mentality hasn’t lent much in the way of success for the Oilers.

While this is a huge milestone for his career, this is primarily a cautionary tale if you’re on the back end of your NHL career, like Perry is.

In 13 NHL playoff games, Perry only has 1 point, with a -2.

Compared to his career playoff performance of 209 games total, 125 points( 53 G, 72 A) with a -11.

Could this be Corey Perry’s big send-off, if the Oilers win the cup?
