A viral interaction between LeBron James and a young fan at the 2024 Paris Olympics has gone viral, even catching the attention of former NHL player Marc Methot. The former hockey player saw James brush off and ask a young fan to step back as he arrived at the celebrations after winning the gold medal.

Methot said on X, formerly known as Twitter:

“He’s one of the most recognizable human beings on the planet, so I get he’ll occasionally have his moments… But that poor kid will never forget this interaction, and worse, it was all caught on camera. If you don’t want the attention, don’t go out.”

The former hockey star played with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Ottawa Senators and Dallas Stars in his career. Methot played 13 seasons in the NHL and had 22 goals and 101 assists for 123 points in 624 games.

Ex-NHL ref calls out LeBron James for Olympic incident

A former referee also called out LeBron James over the incident that has now made the rounds. Even though James was celebrating a huge win and an MVP award, many have criticized his actions.

Tim Peel, an ex-referee, said:

“You would never see a hockey player do this!”

James has been called out by many in all different fields, but a few in the hockey world have made note of his actions and believe their sport would treat fans better than this.

James was awarded Olympic MVP after helping guide the United States to a thrilling gold medal, which included tight wins over Nikola Jokic’s Serbia and Victor Wembanyama’s France, the home team for these Olympics.

James recorded a triple-double, the only player to record it twice in the history of Olympic basketball. His first one was against Australia in 2012. He was aided by Stephen Curry, who scored 60 points in the final two games to get Team USA a gold medal.
