Throughout his career, Jelly Roll has dabbled in a lot of different types of music. He spent years trying to make it in hip-hop before switching to a combination of rock and country. He found success at the intersection of those two styles, though he still occasionally revisits rap music…and tries his hand at other genres as well.
Most artists would confuse their following by doing so. Usually, it makes the most sense for a musician to become well-known and highly successful in one style before trying something new. Jelly doesn’t need to follow the old rules, as it’s very clear that he’s making it not in spite of his switching of genres, but because of his desire to do so.
One Billboard statistic shows just how widespread Jelly’s appeal is, especially when it comes to different kinds of music. This week, he scores a top 10 hit on several different sales charts published by Billboard. He manages to land inside the highest tier on tallies focused on five distinct genres, and all with separate smashes.
Jelly scores a new No. 1 hit this week with “Lonely Road” alongside MGK, formerly known as Machine Gun Kelly. That new release debuts atop the Rock Digital Song Sales chart. He also sits on the same list with his own “Dead End Road,” which dips to No. 6.
“Lonely Road” is a perfect example of his cross-genre appeal, as the single is also a hit on another, style-specific ranking. The collaboration opens in the runner-up rung on the Country Digital Song Sales chart this frame.
Just as is the case on the Rock Digital Song Sales chart, Jelly claims a pair of spaces inside the top 10 on that tally. His single “I Am Not Okay,” which was released shortly before “Lonely Road,” lands in sixth place on the country-only roster.
Earlier this year, Jelly teamed up with Falling In Reverse for their new single “All My Life,” which has been selling well ever since. This week, that track appears on both the Alternative Digital Song Sales (No. 8) and Hard Rock Digital Song Sales charts (No. 2).
As if conquering the country, rock, alternative, and hard rock lists wasn’t impressive enough, Jelly is also sitting side-by-side with one of the biggest names in hip-hop as well. Eminem’s new single “Somebody Save Me” is the latest focus from his new No. 1 album, and it’s still going strong. This week, that tune appears at No. 4 on the Rap Digital Song Sales chart.
