Connor Bedard’s Blackhawks fall 2-1 to Jets in OT
The Jets won the game 2-1, thanks to Mark Scheifele. He tied the game with just over a minute left and scored the winner 38 seconds into overtime. This goal was a big milestone for Scheifele, as he became the second player in Jets history to score 300 goals, following Ilya Kovalchuk.
“It’s pretty humbling to think about,” Scheifele said (via NHL.com). “It’s pretty wild. I’m very thankful for the guys that I’ve played with. I’m lucky enough to play with some really good players. It’s all thanks to them.”
Connor Hellebuyck played well for the Jets, making 25 saves in the home opener. His shutout streak ended when Ryan Donato scored for the Blackhawks. The Blackhawks attempted 26 shots against 35 by Winnipeg Jets.
Coaches from both teams shared their thoughts after the game. Chicago’s Luke Richardson said they needed to play a full 60 minutes.
“It was a good game, but it’s a new page this year for us,” Richardson said. “We’ve got to find a way to lock those down. I thought the goalie played excellent. We’ve got to find a way to get the regulation win for him.”
Winnipeg’s Scott Arniel mentioned that their team’s execution was lacking despite a 2-1 win on the night.
