Jessica Jones actor Krysten Ritter with Tom Holland's Spider-Man and Charlie Cox's Daredevil

Krysten Ritter, who played Jessica Jones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, breaks her silence on the rumors about reprising the role in the franchise. 2024 became a big year for the Marvel-Netflix shows, as the MCU finally made it official that The Defenders franchise is canon to the overall timeline. While Charlie Cox’s Daredevil has become an active player again in the MCU, the other New York heroes are still waiting to be brought back into the fold.

Earlier in May, Ritter sparked new theories online with the MCU audience via a cryptic social media post that had fans believe that she was teasing a return to the franchise as Jessica. However, in an interview with Collider, when the MCU alum was asked if she was ready for the attention her post would get, she explained this was not her intention, sharing the following:

No, I didn’t. I have the shirt. It’s a great t-shirt. It’s one of my favorites and I was wearing it. I was like, ‘Oh, cute! Is anyone gonna recognize my shirt?’ But yeah, I did notice that it made some waves. That was fun. That means a lot to me, as well. The character means so much to me, as well. It’s funny that one little thoughtless Instagram story of my cute t-shirt that I love [got that reaction].

Where Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones Could Return In The MCU

With Jessica being able to appear anywhere in the MCU timeline, the question of what upcoming TV shows and movies she could show up in the future is a naturalone. One of the obvious shows Ritter could reprise the heroine is the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series on Disney+. With Daredevil: Born Again taking place a few years after the events of Daredevil season 3 and Jessica Jones season 3, this would be a neat way to re-introduce Jessica and see what she has been up to after all this time.

In terms of MCU movies, as Jessica has yet to appear on the big screen, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 would be the ideal Marvel Studios film debut for Ritter. Given how Spider-Man and Daredevil are going to be leading the street-level heroes in the MCU, having Jessica appear in Holland’s sequel would make a lot of sense, especially as they both operate in New York. Spider-Man 4 could also serve as a vehicle to soft reboot The Defenders in the MCU, and finally, Peter could be part of the team.

Time will tell how Jessica and the other Marvel-Netflix heroes will factor into the MCU down the line. Given that Marvel Studios has gone as far as making it clear that they are canon to the larger franchise, there have to be some plans being worked on that Kevin Feige hasn’t announced to the public. Hopefully, Jessica Jones will be another MCU show to get a special continuation in one way or another.
