The official launch of Shohei Ohtani’s first signature collection with New Balance has been announced. Ohtani is a worldwide sensation and two-time American League MVP. This eagerly awaited compilation showcases Shohei’s remarkable ability to be both a pitcher and batter. The Shohei Ohtani Signature Collection includes his first signature cleat, the Ohtani 1, as well as performance apparel for on-field use and off-field sports style staples.
The collection has items with Shohei’s emblem, a drawing of him rounding first base that represents his extraordinary athleticism and special abilities. The pieces are inspired by baseball elements, using Marsh Green to symbolize the outfield, pitcher’s mound, and infield dirt in combination with traditional neutral tones. The collection combines modern minimalism with tradition, with cotton tees, woven pants, and a blazer. A tribute to Shohei’s dual function as a two-way player, several French Terry pieces have double pockets and overlocking stitch lines that resemble baseball stitching.
The Ohtani 1 cleat is made to be highly functional and versatile, meeting the specific requirements of a two-way player. The cleat is designed to sit closer to the ground, offering improved comfort and durability, thanks to Shohei’s thoughts throughout development. Superior durability and consistency are provided over the long season by the integration of FuelCell foam and a raised triangle pattern along the toe box. Flexibility is guaranteed by the high-quality PU upper without sacrificing performance. In addition to being featured in metal cleat and grass types, the Ohtani 1 is available in two timeless colors: black with gold and white with gold.
On July 15, 2024, Shohei Ohtani’s New Balance Ohtani 1 and the whole Shohei Ohtani x New Balance collection will go on sale through New Balance and a few other online and brick-and-mortar retailers. In Fort Worth, Texas, fans going to the MLB All-Star Weekend this year can browse the collection one day ahead of time. Retail prices are not yet known as of this writing.
