Three Children Slept Beside Their Mother and Woke Up Orphaned: A Father’s Tears on Camera, a Blood-Soaked Body on an Empty Lot, and the Shocking Confession That Turned a “Perfect Family” Into One of Cagayan de Oro’s Most Horrifying Crimes — Who Was the Real Victim, and How Love, Jealousy, and Addiction Ended in Brutal Murder

Three children went to sleep with their mother by their side and woke up to a world where she no longer existed. A father sobbed in front of a camera, clutching his children tightly as if his tears could undo what had already happened. Just meters away, on an empty grassy lot, lay the lifeless body of his wife—drenched in her own blood. The scene was so devastating it seemed unreal. Yet this was not fiction. This was a real tragedy that shook Cagayan de Oro City and went viral on social media on December 13, 2025.

They were known as the Ramayat family—John Lloyd Ramayat, his wife Graceln Ramayat, and their three young children. To outsiders, they appeared to be the image of a complete and loving family, the kind many people dream of having. No one imagined that behind the smiles, family photos, and everyday routines was a story that would end in violence, betrayal, and irreversible loss.

THE WOMAN BEHIND THE NAME

Graceln Ramayat, born Graceln Agravante Dualio on May 21, 1988, was the youngest among her siblings. She graduated with a BS Psychology degree from Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan in 2011. After college, she worked various jobs—first in a shopping plaza, then as a promo clerk, telemarketer, and eventually as a call center agent, a job she held until her death.

Friends described her as simple, kind, cheerful, sometimes quiet but always friendly. She was known as someone who endured hardships quietly, especially for the sake of her family.

A LOVE STORY THAT TURNED DARK

Graceln met John Lloyd Ramayat when he was only 21 years old and she was 30. What began as friendship slowly turned into romance. Despite their nine-year age gap, they seemed compatible. John Lloyd appeared caring, cheerful, and affectionate—traits that made Graceln feel safe.

Their relationship moved quickly. Within a year, they welcomed their first child, a baby boy. John Lloyd often posted photos of himself proudly holding their child, smiling like a devoted father. They built their home in Barangay Indahag, Cagayan de Oro City. In 2022, they were blessed with a baby girl. Their family seemed complete.

On July 7, 2023, they married. By December 2024, their third child was born. Grateful for what they believed were blessings from God, the couple appeared stronger than ever. On social media, Graceln still posted sweet photos with her husband just weeks before her death.

At home, Graceln was the breadwinner as a call center agent, while John Lloyd stayed home to care for the children—an arrangement many saw as peaceful and modern. But behind closed doors, cracks were already forming.

THE MORNING THAT SHATTERED EVERYTHING

On the morning of December 13, 2025, while families prepared for Christmas, a resident walking near a chapel in Barangay Indahag noticed something disturbing on an empty lot near the road. Lying on the grass was the body of a woman.

Authorities were called. Moments later, the victim was identified as Graceln Ramayat.

Her condition was horrifying—multiple stab wounds to her neck and face, defensive wounds on her hands, and blood pooled around her body. Investigators believed the stabbing happened right there on the lot.

John Lloyd was informed at home, where he was with their three children. He rushed to the scene with them. A viral video captured the moment: a father crying loudly, holding his children close. The kids stood quietly, confused, their young minds unable to process what had happened to their mother.

SUSPICION BEHIND THE TEARS

As police investigated, they noticed something unsettling. John Lloyd’s emotional display felt inconsistent. Officers observed scratches and small wounds on his body. Nearby, investigators found a black slipper—not belonging to the victim. The size matched John Lloyd’s foot.

Graceln’s clothes were intact. Her money was untouched. There were no signs of sexual assault or robbery. The weapon was missing.

When questioned, John Lloyd claimed he stayed home and believed his wife was doing laundry. He said he had no idea why she was near the chapel, just 300 meters from their house.

Police were unconvinced.

At the station, confronted with inconsistencies and physical evidence, John Lloyd broke down. He confessed.

THE CONFESSION

According to John Lloyd, he and Graceln left their children at home that night, planning to go to town to shop at a thrift market. While waiting for transportation near the chapel, they argued. Old conflicts resurfaced. Graceln allegedly mentioned a past incident that hurt John Lloyd’s pride. She laughed, he said—and something inside him snapped.

He admitted stabbing her multiple times. He claimed jealousy consumed him. He revealed he always carried a knife “for protection,” which that night became a weapon of murder.

Police recovered his blood-stained hoodie and the matching slipper. The knife was never found.

DRUGS, VIOLENCE, AND WARNING SIGNS

Relatives later revealed that John Lloyd had admitted to using illegal drugs. His behavior had changed. Neighbors reported frequent arguments. Graceln’s sister shared that bruises began appearing on Graceln’s body. She was strangled, hurt, and slowly drained—physically and emotionally.

The family had begged her to leave him. She refused, choosing to fight for her children’s complete family.

That decision cost her life.

A FAMILY DESTROYED

John Lloyd now faces parricide, punishable by 20 to 40 years in prison. His children lost both parents in one night—their mother to death, their father to prison.

This tragedy is more than a crime story. It is a warning: love cannot survive unchecked jealousy, addiction, and violence.

A family built with hope can collapse in a single moment—when anger wins, and control is lost.
