🚨 MC and Lassy Admit Losing Over PHP10 Million Due to Illegal Gambling Addiction
“Lord… just give me one more chance,” said MC Muah as he recalled the lowest point of his life—a time when he and long-time comedy partner Lassy Marquez had lost almost everything.
In a candid and emotional interview on Toni Talks with Toni Gonzaga, released on August 3, 2025, the beloved comedic duo opened up about how they fell into massive debt after years of engaging in unauthorized and compulsive gambling activities, which eventually drained their finances and left them emotionally and mentally exhausted.
😢 “Only PHP2,000 Left in the Bank”
MC and Lassy revealed that their addiction to illegal betting operations lasted from 2011 to 2016. They estimate their total financial loss to be well over PHP10 million.
MC recalled, “We had saved up so much… and then, suddenly, there was only PHP2,000 left in our bank account.”
The duo shared their story not to gain sympathy, but to serve as a warning to others.
“This isn’t something we’re proud of. But we hope someone learns from our mistake,” MC said.
🎭 How It All Started
MC explained that his descent began after losing his mother to cancer. The grief left him lost and restless.
“I’d finish a show at the comedy bar, and I’d have nowhere to go. Someone invited me to a place… said it might take my mind off things,” he said, referring to an underground gambling venue.
What started as a distraction quickly became a destructive habit. “I thought, ‘PHP50,000? I can win that back with one lucky hit.’ Then it became PHP100,000… PHP300,000… PHP800,000 lost in one night.”
MC admitted he kept returning, hoping to win back what he had already lost—a common cycle in compulsive, unauthorized gambling behavior.
🎰 Lassy Gets Pulled In
Lassy, who had been friends with MC since their early comedy days, joined him one night out of curiosity.
“I saw he was always there and looked like he was enjoying,” said Lassy.
Thanks to what’s often called “beginner’s luck,” Lassy won during that first visit. But the thrill was fleeting—and costly.
“After that, we were there almost every day. No sleep. We’d work all night, tape shows the next day, and still find time to go back. We were obsessed.”
Lassy admitted to losing not just money, but also valuable possessions.
“I had so much jewelry. I pawned it all. I could only afford to pay the interest at the pawnshop. I couldn’t even reclaim the pieces,” she said.
Eventually, Lassy had to borrow money just to pay her bills.
💔 When Rock Bottom Hit
The wake-up call came in 2016.
For Lassy, the realization struck when she learned that a fellow comedian had already bought a house. “I thought—what am I doing? I’m getting older. I need to start saving.”
MC’s turning point was more emotional. Ashamed to open up to close friends, he confided in a newcomer named Tonton.
“I showed him my passbook. He looked at it and said, ‘Ate MC, this is all you have left?’ He didn’t say much—he just listened,” MC recalled.
Tonton even offered to buy him a meal, knowing that MC only had PHP3,000 left to his name.
“He said, ‘Are you hungry? I’ll treat you to some KFC.’ That’s when it hit me. I told myself, I don’t want to live like this anymore.”
🙏 A Spiritual Reboot
Determined to change, MC and Lassy made a joint decision to cut their addiction off for good. They turned to prayer and spiritual renewal.
“I went to Baclaran and Quiapo churches many times,” MC shared. “I prayed, ‘Lord, I know I’ve made mistakes. But give me one more chance to rebuild my life.’”
Shortly after, MC received a call about a new project that gave them both a much-needed second wind.
“They told me how much I could earn from this new gig. I said, ‘Lord, thank You. This is the start of my new chapter.’”
Lassy echoed this sentiment: “The jobs kept coming. It’s like God was saying, ‘Here’s your chance—take it.’”
💼 Rebuilding, Slowly but Surely
Today, MC and Lassy say they have finally regained their footing—both emotionally and financially.
“Now we finally know what financial freedom feels like,” MC said. “We can sleep peacefully at night without worrying about what we’ve lost.”
Lassy added, “Now, we think about how to build a good, stable life—not just for ourselves, but for the future.”
⚠️ Final Message: “Let Our Story Be a Lesson”
Both MC and Lassy emphasize that they never intended to glamorize or normalize illegal gambling. Instead, their message is clear:
“It destroys not just your savings, but your peace of mind, your health, your relationships.”
Through honesty, faith, and the support of others, they were able to rebuild from the ruins. And now, they want others to know that recovery is possible—but only if you take that first step away from the darkness.
