Carmelo Anthony had a 19-season career in the NBA before retiring. He played for several teams, including the Denver Nuggets, the New York Knicks, the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Houston Rockets, the Portland Trail Blazers, and the Los Angeles Lakers. Anthony, known as one of the greatest scorers in NBA history, recently shared a story about almost teaming up with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade on the Miami Heat. During a recent appearance on Podcast P with Paul George, the ten-time NBA All-Star revealed the untold story of his almost partnership with James in the Chicago Bulls before the Miami Big 3 was formed.
“At that time, I wasn’t ready to go partner and team up with nobody. Because I was building my own s**t in Denver. So to leave my own s**t and team up with somebody… it wouldn’t have worked because we were all young and all going down our own path. ‘Nah, I’m over here, whatever y’all going to do, you’ll going to do.’” Anthony said.
Anthony mentioned that being the fourth option at the Heat was not what he desired at that time.
“I’m gonna keep it a buck. Imagine me at 23 years old, 24 years old, being the fourth option on the team, when I’m leading my team every single year. Like, I’m finding my way in this league. And you want me to leave that, and go be a fourth option? I don’t know mentally how I was going to be ready for that. It ain’t got nothing to do with money. I would have had a different role; I would have had to figure out my role on that team. These are alphas that are all coming together.” Anthony added.
Anthony had an amazing professional career and achieved many accolades. However, the current season champion recently made some bold claims about Anthony.
