Marner skating

The off-season rush to free-agency has fans and pundits on their feet, as they debate needs and wants of their teams. All the while, the Stanley Cup inches ever closer as the Eastern and Western Conference Finals games persist.

Fans are concerned about their teams futures, and one of them is the Toronto Maple Leafs who have had a coaching change. With a new direction, it’s undoubtedly Brad Treliving’s job to field a team that fits the new hire, Craig Berube.

There’s been debate about Mitch Marner, whose been speculated to have played his last game with the Toronto Maple Leafs. A 95-point winger and marquee player is someone who many teams would want.
According to NHL Insider Frank Seravalli the Maple Leafs and Blackhawks could be trade partners yet again:
“One team that makes a ton of sense for me and Mitch Marner… the Chicago Blackhawks,” said Seravalli on the Big Show. “Mitch Marner and Connor Bedard.”
The next question, anyone would ask is what would the Maple Leafs get in return for Mitch Marner. Help on the blue line?
“Mitch Marner for Seth Jones who says no?” asked Seravalli.
Jones debatably has been unfairly slighted during his time in Chicago, and actually improved his play in the latter part of the season. The defenseman is currently in year 3 of his 8 year contract, with a cap hit of $9.5 Million AAV.

The only trouble the Blackhawks could run into, is Jones no-movement clause, would could be an issue for the next team he signs with. Not to mention the contract is loaded with numerous bonuses.

But Seravalli thinks this trade is no big deal:
“I think, regardless of whatever you think of the contract, he’s still a number one defenseman and he’s way better than anything else they’ve got,” said Seravalli. “And technically cap wise you would be saving almost 2 million bucks.”
Who would say yes? Blackhawks or Maple Leafs? Who would say No?
