Saturday afternoon’s report on Nick Robertson could create some potential problems for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
As the Maple Leafs prepare to face head coach Craig Berube’s former team, the St. Louis Blues, it appears as though Nick Robertson will once again be relegated to the press box as a healthy scratch. This decision could very well result in a second potential trade request from the struggling Robertson.
According to David Alter on X:
”Nick Robertson is staying out to do some extra work following the optional skate.
So it’s Reaves in and Robertson projected to be scratched.”
Robertson has struggled significantly this season, managing only one goal this season after a red hot pre-season. He has previously expressed frustration over being scratched and has openly discussed his unhappiness in Toronto, leading to speculation about a trade request prior to signing a one-year, $875K “prove-it” deal.
The Maple Leafs have enjoyed an abundance of depth this season, both offensively and defensively, a situation the team hasn’t experienced in many years, and it’s a good problem to have. With players like Easton Cowan and Fraser Minten in the organization’s depth chart, Robertson’s position on the team may be at risk over time anyway, but this latest announcement could make it increasingly likely that he will submit another trade request sooner rather than later as he’s running out of time to prove that he’s a legitimate everyday NHL player.
After getting the nod in net tonight, Joseph Woll and the Maple Leafs will look to bounce back after their earlier loss to the St. Louis Blues this season, when they fell 5-1 in Woll’s first game back from injury.
