Taylor Swift’s once flourishing friendship with her BFF Karlie Kloss hit a series of snags that fans feel it was never able to recover from.

Being close friends with Taylor Swift is something that millions of Swifties could only dream of. For years, 31-year-old American fashion model Karlie Kloss was the envy of the fandom. She was a Victoria’s Secret Angel from 2013 until 2015, but it was the year before this chapter that she became friends with the 34-year-old music icon. The love story began when Taylor said she wanted to bake cookies with Karlie. The only thing to do in that situation is to respond with an invitation, and that’s exactly what Karlie did. “Your kitchen or mine?” she tweeted out to the singer. After that, they were almost inseparable. There were outings, social media posts, Coachella memories, and birthday celebrations. Come on, they even shared a Vogue Magazine cover in February 2015. Taylor Swift and Karlie Kloss’ friendship slipped up after a string of posts

It’s generally understood in the Taylor Swift canon that her friendship with Karlie took a gradual backseat after appearing so intense and perfect for years.

Where did it all go wrong? You could very easily point to July 2017 as the first major, pivotal moment. That month, Karlie was spotted in vacation photos with Kendall Jenner instead of attending Tay’s annual Fourth of July party, an event that has become the stuff of legend. Karlie had attended previously, but that year didn’t. Not only would that be a blow, but Tay’s feud with Kendall’s sister Kim Kardashian was no secret at the time, to say the least.

The vacation posts caused Swifties to raise their eyebrows and question the friendship, and they questioned it again in February 2018 when Karlie was seen out and about with pop star Katy Perry, whose feud with Tay was also no secret.

Fans were hostile in the comment sections of Karlie’s posts, and Cosmopolitan reports that even Jennifer Lawrence was desperate to know what was going on with the pair in 2018. That same year, in April, Karlie shouted out her best friends without name-dropping Taylor. Given how close they’d been, this rang alarm bells.

Vacation snap with Scooter Braun was an even bigger blow

Fast-forward to August 2019, and it was another vacation photo that signaled the conclusion of a once special friendship.

Karlie featured in smiling snaps on none other than Scooter Braun‘s Instagram. Many Swifties regard him as the ultimate villain in Tay’s story, as they had become locked in a feud in June 2019 regarding the ownership of the masters of her first six studio albums. This battle led the singer to re-release selected works under the ‘Taylor’s Version’ banner. Years later, Taylor got the last laugh.

Fans were horrified that Karlie would be hanging out with Scooter in the immediate aftermath of his drama with Tay. As you can imagine, the now 34-year-old and Karlie’s public signs of mutual love hit the brakes from there, at least temporarily.

Karlie Kloss attended the Eras Tour and has since praised Taylor

Despite the alleged feud between Karlie and Taylor leading to some distance in the eyes of both of their followers, Karlie is still very clearly a Swiftie.

In August 2023 she attended an Eras Tour show in Los Angeles and was seen having a great time at the event. On the other hand, people were quick to acknowledge that she was in the stands with regular ticket holders and not the VIP section.

All the same, she was there in support and as recently as July 2024 she voiced her appreciation of the singer’s music. When asked by Yahoo Life during an interview what her favorite Taylor song is, she responded: “She’s got so many hits. I definitely love ‘Shake It Off.’”

Perhaps the pair can shake off any potential bad blood in the near future and get back to being BFFs.
