After legendary actress Maggie Smith passed away on September 27, 2024, at the age of 89, several celebrities paid tribute to her. This includes J.K. Rowling and Maggie’s co-stars who were in the Harry Potter film franchise. Rowling shared a post on X (formerly Twitter), on September 27, where she wrote:

“Somehow I thought she’d live forever. RIP Dame Maggie Smith.”

Daniel Radcliffe who played the role of Harry Potter, stated to The Associated Press on September 27, speaking about the late actress. Daniel said:

“I will always consider myself amazingly lucky to have been able to work with her, and to spend time around her on set. The word legend is overused but if it applies to anyone in our industry then it applies to her. Thank you Maggie.”

He further recalled the first time he had met the iconic actress when he was only 9 years old. At the time, they were reportedly reading the scenes for the 1999 drama series David Copperfield. Radcliffe continued by stating that he was also very intrigued by the fact she was a Dame.

Several other artists who had previously worked with Maggie Smith took to social media, to offer their tributes to her.

Celebrities like Emma Watson and Bonnie Wright paid tributes to the late actress Maggie Smith

Emma Watson, who played the role of Hermione Granger, posted an Instagram story, after the demise of the actress. She seemingly shared a photo of a scene from one of the Harry Potter movies. Watson further wrote how she was unaware of what a big star Maggie was when she was a child. Emma added:

“It is only as I’ve become an adult that I’ve come to appreciate that I shared the screen with a true definition of greatness.”

Further in the story, she described Maggie Smith as being “real, honest, funny and self-honoring.” Emma Watson concluded by stating she was going to miss Smith. Bonnie Wright, who acted as Ginny Weasley, shared a post on Instagram, with a caption that read:

“Our dearly loved and revered head of Gryffindor house you will be so missed by the Harry Potter community.”

Bonnie went on sending condolences to the grieving family of Maggie. Tom Felton, who played the role of Draco Malfoy, also shared a post on Instagram with a heartfelt caption. He shared a scene from a Harry Potter movie and wrote a caption that read:

“Deeply saddened to wake up to the news of Maggie’s passing. There quite simply was no one like her. Thank you for looking after us from literally day one. Thank you for not getting me kicked off the set when I couldn’t stop giggling during your transfiguration class… Raise your wands.”

Rupert Grint, who played Ron Weasley in the film series, took to Instagram where he shared a photo with Maggie Smith, and also penned a heartfelt note. Grint wrote in the caption about how lucky he felt to have shared the set with the iconic actress.

Hugh Bonneville, who was a part of Downtown Abbey, along with Smith, had also paid tributes to the late actress.
