Chelsea’s attempt to sign Liam Delap in the January transfer window was dealt a blow when Ipswich Town refused to sell their star striker.
After a superb start to the season, Enzo Maresca’s side have seen their slim title hopes evaporate following a disappointing run of results over the Christmas break. Two consecutive losses against Fulham and Ipswich and a draw with Everton dropped the Blues to fourth place and 10 points behind top team Liverpool.
With the January transfer window now open, rumors suggest Chelsea may be looking to strengthen their attack. Nicolas Jackson has impressed leading the attack, but both Christopher Nkunku and Joao Felix have been poor when given their chances.
Liam Delap is playing well for Ipswich.
Ipswich striker Liam Delap, who scored against Chelsea when the two sides met at Christmas, is considered a potential target having scored seven goals in 18 appearances this season. However, according to BBC, this team that is facing the risk of relegation has no intention of selling its star this month.
Ipswich just bought this 21-year-old player from Man City last summer for 20 million pounds, they don’t want to let him leave yet. Liverpool are also said to be interested in Delap, who recently insisted that he is not letting transfer speculation change his goals.
The Blues will sign Brighton striker Ewan Ferguson but, like Delap, that deal may be difficult to complete this month. Chelsea could also borrow Paris Saint-Germain striker Randal Kolo Muani, who was left out of the squad by Luis Enrique.
Chelsea have been linked with a six-month deal for Kolo Muani, but could face competition from Manchester United and Arsenal to sign the versatile striker.
