Ottawa Charge goaltender Emerance Maschmeyer is married to her former Team Canada teammate Genevieve Lacasse. The couple welcomed their son Beckham Brae in Sep. 2024.
Maschmeyer and Lacasse are celebrating their first Christmas with their baby boy this year. On Tuesday, the couple took Brae to meet Santa on Christmas Eve. Maschmeyer shared a carousel of pictures and clips on Instagram from the visit.
One photo showed Santa holding Beckham, with Maschmeyer in a red shirt and Lacasse in a white sweatshirt and pink beanie sitting next to him. In another photo, Beckham sat calmly on Santa’s lap.

Emerance Maschmeyer and Geneviève Lacasse began dating in 2015 but initially kept their relationship private to focus on their careers. They married in 2022, sharing the news quietly with wedding photos rather than a public announcement.
Emerance Maschmeyer opens up on how son Beckham changed her perspective on life
Emerance Maschmeyer shared how becoming a mother has shifted how she sees hockey and life. Before the birth of her son Beckham, the PWHL star explained that her life revolved entirely around the sport.
“I’ve put so much time and energy into hockey, and everything in my life revolved around the game. But now, if I’m having an off day or things aren’t going well, Beckham reminds me it’s a game and that there’s tomorrow—you can work at it tomorrow,” she said in an interview with The Ice Garden.
“There are always ups and downs, but instead of diving deep into those emotions, it’s kind of like water off a duck’s back,” Maschmeyer said with a laugh. “He gives me that perspective.”
She acknowledged the support she receives from her partner Genevieve Lacasse, who takes on the primary caregiving role during her training sessions. The Ottawa goaltender also shared that her teammates are often eager to spend time with Brckham and are always in line to babysit him.
“The girls love babies, and everyone’s just so willing to help. Everyone has put their name in to be a babysitter at some point,” she said.
Both Maschmeyer and Lacasse have had successful careers, with Maschmeyer winning gold medals at the 2021 IIHF Women’s World Championship and the 2022 Winter Olympics, while Lacasse won gold at the 2014 Sochi Olympics and at the 2012 IIHF World Championships.
