EDMONTON — The grass is always greener on the other side.

Or at least things can seem that way.

It seems that a former Edmonton Oilers blueliner is looking for a new place to play hockey. Dmitri Samorukov is heading to the KHL according to championat.com.

In an online article reporting that Nikita Okhotyuk has signed in the KHL, other players were named as well. Ivan Prosvetov, Ruslan Iskhakov, Egor Afanasyev, Denis Guryanov and Samorukov have reportedly signed KHL contracts with CSKA.

Samorukov has played primarily in the AHL during his time with the Pittsburgh Penguins, St. Louis Blues and Oilers. He has 184 AHL games to his credit, where he scored 53 total points.

He played two games with the Blues the same year that he was traded there for Klim Kostin. For those games he played 15:48 and 13:57.

He struggled to gain a legitimate opportunity to play in the NHL. Considering that, it’s not unreasonable for him to consider playing elsewhere.

In 2020-21 he played 48 games for CSKA Moscow of the KHL. He collected eight points in those KHL games. All the best to Samorukov in whatever his future holds.
