In a new documentary, Prince Harry said his legal battle with the British media contributed to the rift in relations with the Royal family.

“That (the legal battle with the tabloid press) is definitely the central part of it (the conflict with the British Royal Family),” Prince Harry said.

Last year, Prince Harry won a lawsuit against Mirror Group when the court ruled that the company had illegally collected information about him.

Prince Harry said he felt vindicated and this was a large-scale legal victory against Mirror. However, he said: “It would be better if we did it as a family.”

He believes that his determination to confront the British media to the end has caused a rift with the Royal family.

He is still suing the British tabloids of News Group Newspapers (NGN) and the publisher of the Daily Mail in two separate cases. The prince accused journalists and private investigators of years of illegal surveillance activities.

Previously, Prince Harry accused the British media of being involved in the death of his mother, the late Princess Diana. Diana died in a car accident in Paris, France when her limousine accelerated to escape paparazzi.

He also accused the British press of “hostile and racist attacks” against his wife, Meghan Markle. This is considered one of the reasons why the Prince and his wife announced to stop performing their British Royal duties and move to the US in 2020.
