Pete Alonso has worn only one uniform throughout his career. Alonso has a deep connection with the Mets and is probably waiting for the right opportunity to return. Yet, he declined the $21.05 million qualifying offer from the team.
Alongside Alonso, Sean Manaea and Luis Severino declined their qualifying offers. Severino signed with the Oakland Athletics while the Mets brought back Manaea. Alonso is still a free agent despite several teams trying to acquire him.
Rumors state that Alonso wants something from $150 to $200 million. The Mets have blown a huge sum on Juan Soto and other players this offseason. Pete Alonso carried the team when they needed him the most, but the money seems to be an issue.
The Mets have yet to give Alonso an offer, but the latest rumor is that they could reunite with an eight-figure amount. Alonso proved his worth after his stunning performance last season. The slugger is sure to find a team if the Mets do not act fast.
Alonso is predicted to sign a three-year short-term deal worth $90 million. It’s important to note that this news did not come from Jon Heyman or Jeff Passan. The rumors are sourced from former MLB star Carlos Baerga.
It’s hard for Alonso to agree to a deal that is less than $100 million. The slugger will weigh his options from other offers, but he might consider returning to the Mets if they bump it up to $130 million. While these rumors should be taken with a pinch of salt, dismissing them entirely is still impossible.
The Texas Rangers Show Interest In Pete Alonso
A few teams have shown interest in Alonso apart from the Mets. The Yankees, Giants, and now the Rangers. The 2023 World Series champions are looking for playoff run this season. The only way they could achieve their goal is by adding experienced players to their lineup.
Alonso will be a perfect fit for the Rangers, along with Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, and other stars. Again, it depends on what they have to offer. After trading a few players, the Rangers have spots to fill.
