Edmonton Oilers fans are not happy that Stan Bowman is rumored to be in the running for the vacant GM position.
EDMONTON — When the people speak up, the powers that be should listen.
Many Edmonton Oilers fans want to be heard when it comes to the issue of the Oilers next General Manager.
Earlier in the week there were reports from several sources citing a controversial candidate for the Oilers vacant GM position. Andy Strickland and Frank Seravalli both reported that Stan Bowman was a candidate that the Oilers were considering.
Many fans of the team are not pleased with this news.

One fan took it upon themselves to start a petition. “Keep Stan Bowman out of the Oilers organization” is a petition started by someone known as “Schmiddy G”.
“We do not condone a man who covered up a sexual abuse scandal nor do we want him as a part of the Edmonton Oilers organization. We as fans detest this rumored hiring and will boycott the Oilers as a result. Find a better candidate or face the consequences,” the petition reads.
It continues, “Stan Bowman did nothing to stop the ongoing sexual abuse of a player within his Chicago Blackhawks organization and worked to cover up the scandal. As a man with authority this is an act of cowardice and should sicken anyone.”
“This man does not deserve a second chance and does not get to sour the good Edmonton Oilers name. The victim of the abuse deserves better, we can influence the NHL to be better as a result.”
They have a goal of 2500 signatures and have 2129 at the time of this writing. The petition opened on July 1st.
