Paul Bissonnette’s comment on a video of Connor McDavid and Auston Matthews skating together in Germany did not sit well with Oilers fans.
In a video that no one saw coming, Matthews and McDavid were seen skating together in Munich, Germany on Wednesday with Matthews slinging a cross-ice pass to McDavid before the Oilers’ captain ripped a shot past Christopher Kolarz, the goalie for EHC Red Bull Munchen in the DEL.
Spittin’ Chiclets co-host and former NHLer Paul Bissonnette quoted the video on “X” with the comment “McJesus to the Leafs confirmed”. His comment, which was obviously a joke, led to some Oilers fans having mini meltdowns and showing the hockey world that they aren’t very good at math.
The comments from Oilers fans were along the lines of “Shut up Biz” and “What about Matthews to the Oilers?”. Unfortunately for Oilers fans, Matthews is signed for another four seasons while McDavid is signed for only the next two. To make it simple for Oilers fans, four is greater than two, which means that McDavid joining Matthews on the Leafs — the team he grew up idolizing — is more likely to happen than Matthews joining the Oilers.
The pair had some undeniable chemistry during the 2016 World Cup of Hockey and it would not be fair to the rest of the league to see them on the same team.
It would be an NHL marketing dream to have the best goal scorer and best playmaker together in the world’s largest hockey market and if the Leafs play their cards right, you never know what may happen.
