Alex Ovechkin expressed deep disappointment in himself and his teammates.
”I didn’t play well, so it sucks that we got swept. I’m proud of this group. We’ve gone through a lot of injuries, the trade deadline, but we stuck together and showed character. The experience the guys have gained will help.”

Ovechkin found himself benched more than 4th line grinders during the crucial elimination game, playing only 8 minutes and 38 seconds over two periods.

Questions now arise about whether this may have been his last playoff appearance. For the first time in his remarkable 19-season career, Ovechkin failed to tally up a single point in a playoff series, a disappointing milestone for the star player.

Ovechkin remains within reach of the all-time NHL goal-scoring record, with 853 career goals to his name, he looks to catch Wayne Gretzky and his 894 goal recorded, just 41 goals away.
